After 7weeks with application ‘in process,’ we called asking to expedite or give urgent appointment. They said no urgent appointments anywhere on the east coast and request for expediting process may or may not be accepted. With 2 weeks left for flights. We contacted our congressman’s office. The passport was received exactly a week later.

It was a minor’s first passport and I did pay for priority express shipping, too. The agency cashed my check on 6/27, so 5 days after applying at the post office. The status online was “in process” from that day on, but I received an email update of application “in process” on 7/9 and one saying “shipped” on 7/13.

Very stressful because you have no visibility into the processing time and the representatives don’t either. I was getting nervous that the passports wouldn’t get back in time before my trip and found that the nearest passport location was over 100 miles away, and they had no available appointment times. Very stressful process when you wait until the last minute to renew or apply new too close to you trip.
