Got nervous reading other peoples stories and called 877 line to change passport application to expedite on 07/12. Was sent an email to respond to with cc information to request to expedite on 07/12 (Was never charged and never changed). on 07/13 i contacted my congressman via phone and left voicemail to get assistance in expediting or at least a status update at 8:00pm. 07/14 got a call back from congressman’s office next morning and was informed to submit a privacy release form, submitted then received an email later that day that their office opened an inquiry with my agency. 07/17 Status still in Process at 8:00am, i followed up via email with congressman and got response at 3:30pm and was told the agency informed them it was approved on 07/16, checked status again and it said Approved, changed to shipped 07/18 and received in mail 07/20. Total time 8 weeks, routine.

DOT- 7/26/23 with family to Canada. Youngest son waiting for passport. Expedited service including mail to and from agency. Unfortunately, we had to search to find a place to take the photo and because it was first passport we had to make an appointment at PO to hand it in. This wasn’t an easy or timely process, especially for a person who works full time.

Called center 7/14/23 – 2.5 hour hold, lost call. Tried through weekend nobody to answer.
Called 7/17/23 – 2.25 hour hold, told closest place was Detroit for interview on Monday 7/24/23. I say “but I live in NC. He say’s, never mind it was just taken, there are no appointments in the US left for this week or next. I will place your travel as urgent but there are no guarantees. The gentleman on the phone was very pleasant.
Continued to check status- still processing. Found this site on 7/20/23 and learned that I could contact government representative. Called Deputy District Director (NC09) in North Carolina at noon on 7/20/23. Turned in paperwork with travel information by 14:00 same day. Email from DDD in NC on 7/21/23 saying that passport was approved and provided overnight tracking number. I also just checked my tracking number 19:50 on /7/21 and passport is due at noon 7/24, travel on 7/26. Awesome.
I had to share our experience because if it wasn’t for this site I wouldn’t have known to call the governor representative, which I believe was the key to this. This site also gave me hope because I was so stressed thinking our youngest wouldn’t be traveling with the rest of his family but i kept reading that people could get their passports with intervention within days, and so we did. Submitted application 5/22 and began processing on 5/25. Seven weeks later I had seen no change and my travel date was two weeks away. If you are traveling soon and cannot get an appointment at an agency/do not live near one I would greatly recommend reaching out to your local representative! Calling the suggested number here did very little IMO. When I contacted my representative, however, I got my passport approved within three days and received it about a day later. Email your representatives!!!!! It will save you so much grief. Good luck!

I sent my application by USPS Priority Mail, expecting delivery in about 2 days, but tracking on the USPS website showed that it took about a week to deliver. In hindsight, I might have been willing to pay up for Priority Express delivery, but all’s well that ends well, since I got a faster turnaround than the current average on your website. I did pay for Priority Express return service. That package was stamped on Tuesday, and I received it by Friday (it might have been in my mail box on Thursday), so that probably helped.

7/10 Called 1-877(National Passport Information Center) and was told call back 7/13 (which is 14 calendar days away from the DOT)
7/13 5:02am(Pacific Time)(35 min hold) told DOT. Agent sent a notification to passport agency(?).
7/13 5:40am (80 min hold) asked for expedited mail. Received email to request expedited mailing. Sent email with credit card information. (They don’t take expedited service over the phone anymore.)
7/13 9:00am emailed Senator again
7/14 afternoon Emailed Congresswoman with privacy release form. (Because there was no response from senator’s office, I wanted to contact other helper. I wanted to do anything I could do.)
7/17 Replied from Congresswoman. They submitted a request and said it would take up to 72 hours to get response from the Department of state. They asked me to refrain from calling for the update.
7/19 called 1-877 to make an appointment for passport agency and told no appointment found in the state. I just told them like, “Thank you for working for us every day.”
7/20 9:39am found status changed to “Shipped.” !!
7/20 10:30am replied from congresswoman’s office and told the Passport agency communicated that Senator’s office had an open inquiry on my behalf so congresswoman’s office is no longer able to follow up with the agency for updates.
7/20 11:30am replied from Senator’s office and told the passport application was completed and UPS tracking number. (I can see that on the status, too.)
7/21 11:00 Received passport!

Senator and congressman/woman service is free.
I didn’t pay for the expedited mailing even though I sent my card information.
