Luckily, we were on a cruise that didn’t require passports. But my son was the only one of us without one, as it didn’t arrive in time. I worried about what would happen in an emergency during our port excursions.

Went to post office in Royal Oak, MI. on June 26th (Had to make an appointment, was able to get in next day). Took photo at USPS (I was hoping to avoid any issues or errors by having them take it), and I paid for expedited return shipping.

Dept.of State said “In Process” on June 30th (never said “received”).

July 18th I checked and it said shipped and had a tracking number, though when I tracked it through USPS, it said that it was awaiting package at facility.

July 19th the website said “Approved”.

Received Passport 11:30am on July 20th.
I did add my travel dates to the application and checked the status website 2x daily to see how things were progressing. I wish the status website would have been a little more accurate, but I can’t complain seeing as how I received it in 3.5 weeks vs. the 7-9 weeks I was quoted. Good Luck!

These were for two passport “renewals” for our kids under age 16. It’s considered a first time application on the form DS-11 even though they have an unexpired passports already. We paid extra $60 for expedited application but did not pay for expedited shipping. Did not put any travel dates on the applications. Processing location was 74 (Atlanta) but passports were shipped from Arkansas. Total time from the system showing in process to passports in hand was 7 weeks and one day. Both passports arrived same day and did not come on separate days like I’ve read from other people who made multiple applications on same day.
