I submitted my application under routine service, but immediately that day realized I should have expedited. I went back to the County Clerk. They said the passport was sealed, but not to worry, I could go to travel.state.gov and get my passport expedited.

I submitted 4 requests to expedite and all were completely ignored. They would not expedite. We needed a visa so they gave us an emergency appointment in Colorado which is a 9 hour drive and I did not want to go. I called my US congressman and they got it to me and I didn’t have to go.

If you need your passport, don’t bother trying to expedite through the agency. They won’t help you at all. Call your US congressman. They have a friendly, helpful staff that will get results.

The passport agency is worthless!

I realized about 4 months before my non refundable 2 week European trip/cruise that mine and my son’s passport needed renewal. It took a month to get my son an appointment which he needed because he was under 16 at the last renewal. My passport started processing 3/14/23 and arrived 6/8/23. Here is the log for my son:

3/1/23 Registered for appointment
3/31/23 In person appointment; agent advised no expediting was necessary. This was my biggest mistake/regret.
4/5/23 In process
End of May – I called to inquire about expediting but was told it would take 27 business days which I didn’t have
6/16/23 I called and said it was 14 days before travel (6/30); apparently they count differently, and with the weekend and holiday I was told to call back 6/19. That was after 8 attempts to get through and 1 1/2 hour hold
6/16/23 I contacted my local congresswoman. They emailed me immediately and called the next business day for a credit card to expedite.
6/20/23 I was contacted by the Charleston passport agency in response to my congresswoman to again get my credit card
6/22/23 Status changed to approved. Shipped UPS
6/26/23 Passport arrived. Travel in 4 days. I would not have received it without my congresswoman’s help. I would give the experience 0 stars for the stress I have been through.

May 8 – Submitted child passport application in person at passport acceptance office. We paid for every possible rush service (rush mail to passport center, expedited processing and rush return mail).
May 12 – passport application received by passport center 69 (NH). Status showing as in process. No change for next 5 weeks.
June 20 – emailed local congressman to ask for help and aide assigned to start investigating since we were within 14 days of travel. By luck, status changed to approved later that afternoon. I have no idea if the congressman had anything to do with this since we had just contacted them. We had just provided a waiver to release information and proof of travel and I doubt they could have done anything so quickly.
June 21 – Status changed to shipped from Arizona.
June 22 – passport arrived in the mail.

Travel date is June 30, so total time was about 6 weeks from date of passport received at passport processing center until receipt. Thank goodness for everyone sharing their wait times to give us hope. Good luck to everyone else. We will definitely leave more time for the next passport application or renewal. This was too close!

When I applied I had 9 weeks until travel, so I was very concerned about not getting it in time, having to get help from a representative, wrestle with trying to get an appointment, etc. So it was stressful for that reason, but ultimately it came in 6 weeks without me having to do anything.
