They did mail passports priority mail which we did not pay for so that was nice since we waited past the 6-9 weeks. We did sign up for emails and never got any emails when status changed so signing up for that is useless.

Very easy process. I think I just made it before the spring/summer rush. The week after application was received expedited processing went from 5-7 weeks to 7-9 weeks.

Friendly post office employee told us we had plenty of time. (He’d not been informed that State Dept just added 2 weeks to processing time the week before.) They cashed out check very quickly but it the online status remained “Not Available” for 5 full weeks before changing to “In Process”. The passport was received six days later (via priority mail which we’d already paid for). Fortunately we were going on a cruise, not a flight, so we were able to board with just a birth certificate. Otherwise our trip would’ve been ruined. Thanks for running this website and twitter account, it was helpful to see others experiences.
