The USPS Informed Delivery site said the passport was coming from Tucson, AZ, the return address on the envelope said Portsmouth, NH, and the passport itself just says Dept of State, so I have no idea which passport agency actually processed it.

Applied on-line for expedited service and it took 85 calendar days to receive my passport. The on-line system is frustrating as the “In Process” status provides no useful information. Tried calling the passport help line but either got a busy signal or an automated message saying they could not take my call because of volume and to try later. When I finally got thru (after almost an hour on hold) the customer service rep could not provide any information not even where my passport application was being processed. He said wait till 2 weeks before my travel date and call back to “try” to get an appointment for in-person emergency processing at a passport center. Had to call my Congressman for assistance. Thankfully his office was able to cut thru the red tape and get my passport processed.

Passport application was submitted in person on 2/21 to processing agency. Application was logged as received on 2/27 and showed in process. At the time the application was submitted Expedited processing was 5-7 weeks. I signed up to receive email status updates, but once we got to 5 weeks, I started checking the status on the website daily. On 4/6 the status changed to Approved. Later that day the passport was shipped out. I paid for 1-2 day return delivery service and the passport arrived at my office the next day. I never received any email status updates even though I signed up for them. It’s a good idea to check the status daily so you know when your passport is shipping out to you. I deal with a lot of passport applications/renewals for employees of my company. In the past Expedited processing usually ended up coming back a bit quicker than the estimated processing times. Due to the current influx of passport applications, I would not plan on Expedited processing to take place faster than the current estimates. ALWAYS pay the extra money for the 1-2 day return delivery.

My application went to Locator 69. They seem to have turnaround times of 4-5 weeks from receipt of application, provided that it is expedited and no major changes/issues. I noted my travel date as April 27th on my application. The passport office received my passport on March 9th, which is when their clock starts ticking.

Note that different Locators will likely have different wait times.

Standard renewal, no changes, expedited service and expedited return shipping. Mail in on 3/16, “in process” on 3/22. Changed to approved on 4/8, received in mail on 4/11.
We have a trip coming up in early May and the 5-7 week waiting time was cutting it extremely close. Luckily it got it back from mail in to my house in 25 days.
