I applied at a local facility on February 4th, but my application did not arrive at the passport agency until March 4th. Knowing processing times don’t start until they arrive at the agency, I was stressed that my passport would be arriving sometime mid-late May which would be after my planned trip. The status of my application sat as “processing” for about a month before it finally changed to “approved” and was mailed to me in less than a week.

I applied online on 1/12 and on 1/13 it was in the process of “being reviewed by a U.S. Department of State employee”. The passport renewal estimated time was supposed to be 6-9 weeks when I submitted it. When the 8th-week mark came along, I took a look at my status and it was still in process and saw online that there were reports of passport delays and the estimated time went up and up till eventually 10-13 weeks. I started getting worried about my trip at the end of April and saw other people had a lot of issues with passports taking forever and I didn’t want to risk the timeline. On Friday 3/31, I updated my online application to expedited and paid the extra $60 to hopefully speed up the process. Then on Monday 4/3, my passport had been updated to printed and shipped; I received it in the mail on 4/6.

Applied for expdited renewal on 2/27 for travel on 4/11. Got my senators involved mid-March. I called the passport every morning for a week once the 14 day window opened and I received different information on each call. On Friday, March 31, I got notice that I had received an appointment at my local office on Monday, April 3. I collected all of my paperwork and spent 4.5 hours waiting to be called forward. When I was called, the passport officer told me that my passport had been printed the previous Friday and would ship soon, but the system had not yet updated. He told me he could not help me and that I needed to go home and wait. Received my passport on Thursday, April 6, five days before travel.
