I applied for my passport in person at the USPS on March 3rd, and my application was received on March 10. I chose regular processing, therefore expected waiting time was 6-9 weeks which eventually changed to 8-10 weeks. After 9 weeks, I got a little worried that my application might no arrive on time for my upcoming travel, therefore I reached out to my Congressman on Friday, March 17th. On Tuesday, March 21st, my application was approved, and the following day it was shipped. I received my passport on Friday, March 24th.

The lack of feedback during the process was extremely stressful. Until I got the confirmation of completeness, I had no idea if it would be days, weeks, or months remaining.

In-process status 1/17/2023 within half-hour of application (no email notification of application received/submitted). The in-process status has not changed since 1/17/2023.
No expedited service. No FedEx service. No contact through congressman.
The web on-line status check did not work few times due to system glitch.
Tried phone line help but did not continue as more than 2-1/2 hour wait last week.
Processing time was 6-9 weeks on the date of my application.
Passport agency may be Philadelphia for New Jersey residents.
Submitting renewal application on-line was very easy, took about 20 minutes.

Applied on line and accepted on December 7 2022. In process January 26 2023. Regular service. In March started to get worried. Even though they say you can go to travel state site and pay for expedited services. On line would not allow. No one answer phone only stating call back later. In middle of March because our international travel was for May 14 we asked for help from our elected federal congressman and senators. They were very courteous and was able to email passport agency with little success. Around March 20 the passport agency was accepting phone calls after a 3 hour wait. Once you told them it was an online application they switched you to another person. After another 6 hour hold at 10:20 pm someone answered and said go online and ask for expedited service. Before I could explain she hung up on me. 3 days later I called the passport service number and waited 2.5 hours and asked for a supervisor. About 45 minutes later one came and reported the person who hung up on me. She apologized and said next time ask for an online rep. and that there is problems with the online system. Once again on March 22 I called and another 2.5 hour wait. I asked for online rep. To my surprise after only 7 minute wait a knowledgable worker who was very courteous was shocked to hear about 15 weeks and said my application was in Tucson Arizona. That night I went online and was able to get via credit card for $79.00 expedited service. Apparently this service was now available. On March 23 I received email that my renewal was approved and received it the next day after 16 weeks from Tucson Arizona.

Tracked right in line with the times on this site! This site eased a lot of stress. Not all post office branches offer passport photos, even though their website says they should! I got lucky the default priority mail shipping was just 2 days from the facility halfway across the country
