Applied for passports for the kids on January 10th. Checked the portal and one says it was received January 23rd (both checks were cashed though) When we applied expedited services were 3-5 weeks, but know expedited speeds are 5-7 weeks and I have no idea what to expect. Have not received passports though

I called the passport info number, and they said the processing time at the time of the application received still applies. So you should still be in the 3-5 week window. The status page is incorrect and simply reflects the latest times regardless of whether that applies to your application.

I applied 12/31 with the expedited service online application and still have not received. Probably missing my trip…

Does your status at least say in progress online? I applied online the same day and just now got an email saying it was in process.

Which processing center has your passport? First 2 digits of your application locator number. Google “ passport renewal locator number (your first 2 digits) phone number”

Hi Megan, have you received yet?

We applied for our kids’ renewal on November 15th. Were assured we did not beed to expedite. Postal worker said probably before xmas but definitely within 8-11 weeks. It has been 13 weeks and we are supposed to leave the country in ten days. It has said “processing” on the status for weeks. Passport agency says we should go to SF and expedite. We are four hours drive away (each way!). Infuriating!

I applied for renewal online on11/27, my wife applied for renewal a week before me and my kids applied for their first ones a week after me. They all got their passports, I still haven’t received mine.

Are these estimates business days or do they include weekends?

    1. PWT Editor says: 02/12/2023 at 1:21 pm

Its calendar days so does include weekends

Is # of days is calendar days or business days?

    1. John D says: 02/09/2023 at 9:11 pm

      # of days is calendar days, not business days. I applied online expedited passport renewal on January 11 (so did my son). After a few weeks both said “received”, then they both said “in process” for two weeks, now both are back to “received”. Estimate when I applied was 3-5 weeks for expedited. Today is 4 weeks and 1 day. I leave for my international trip on March 3 (BA first class to london, business class to Israel from London). I’m a college professor so this is my only break and I will be totally screwed if it doesnt come in next 3 weeks. Can’t take off a day to go to office in person either.

for some reason you thought it necessary to tell us what class you are traveling. Bully for you

Do you not understand the point? I’m going to lose $20,000 if my passport does not arrive in time. That makes it a huge deal for me.

I do not understand this. All during the Covid drama, there were tons of warnings about how long passport renewals were taking. I saw these cautionary tales everywhere on the news, on TV ads, etc. Why is this so difficult to do far ahead of time?

Hi John, have you received the expedited application yet?

  6. Stephanie says: 02/09/2023 at 5:40 pm

I applied for renewal online on January 5, 2023, and paid expedited processing, which was 3-5 weeks. I just checked the website and the status is “in process” and now the expedited times have increased to 5-7 weeks.

  7. crys says: 02/10/2023 at 3:16 am

MY APPLICATION WAS RECEIVED 01/19. CHECK WAS CASHED 01/21. AS OF TODAY, 02/09, IT IS STILL IN PROCESSING. ABOUT HOW LONG AFTER THE CHECK IS CASHED DO THEY MAIL OUT THE NEW ONE?

    1. matthew says: 02/10/2023 at 4:02 pm

routine is 8-11 weeks after receiving
      expedited is 5-7 weeks

  8. Heather says: 03/03/2023 at 3:10 pm

I applied in person for renewal
And paid for expedited service. That was in December and my passport status online says approved. It also said I should have gotten it Jan 21. It’s March and I haven’t received it! Also can’t get through on the phone lines, they won’t take a call back number and the wait time keeps saying 2 1/2 hours even after waiting for an hour. I am so frustrated and don’t know what else to do.
